Mental Health Awareness: Making Positive Impacts for ALS Patients & their Families

Healey & AMG Center for ALShelps to change the course of medical care planning and improve outcomes for people with ALS by adding a psychologist or psychiatriuc mental-health nurse practitioner to the ALS multidisciplinary care team at the Healey Center, addressing an enormous need for people with ALS.
The primary symptom of ALS is the progressive loss of strength, yet the psychological impact of the disease is also tremendous. While quality of life ratings remain relatively high, even in the face of increasing physical impairment, the emotional stress also remains high. Access to expert psychological support to navigate these changes and to offer coping strategies, will provide a positive impact on quality of life for people with ALS.
